My name is Nazanin Khadem and I am a member of the class of 2014 at RSO. I am from Woodstock, Georgia and I attended Kennesaw State University in Georgia, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology.
I participated in an internship at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia during my junior year in college. Although, I was a biotechnology major and worked on a microbiology research and truly enjoyed it, I know I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life in a lab doing research.
My interest in Optometry began very early on when I was five years old and I realized that without glasses world is not that pretty. When I was in high school I had an opportunity to talk to an optometrist and ask him about the profession. It was then that I realized that optometry is more than just a vision check. An eye exam can reveal signs of a more serious complication that has gone undetected and if caught early it can save lives.
I came across RSO while I was searching for Optometry schools and after talking to the admission recruiter at RSO I found it to be an ideal school for me. Soon after the interview I found out that I was accepted. It was very exciting to be part of a school with new and advance equipment and some of the most knowledgeable faculty.
At RSO I get to be involved with many student organizations, and give back to the community.
Because I lived so close to a big city like Atlanta, I wanted to live somewhere that felt like home away from home. I love that San Antonio is a big city with a small town feel.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to be at RSO and look forward to a better life and career, because of my time at this university.
